Our Performance Consulting business unit works alongside our Digital business unit and our Strategy Consulting business unit with the three business units together giving a rounded offer that meets the needs of senior leaders in public services.


The Performance Consulting business unit currently contributes approximately 25% of The PSC’s income and continues to experience robust growth. In response to this continued increase in demand for our expertise, we are looking for a Senior Manager to join the business unit. This is an exciting role for an experienced consultant with some public sector expertise who has a passion for delivering change and a desire to help our public services run efficiently and effectively. The Senior Manager will lead client projects and teams of consultants, working closely with the Partners. The Senior Manager will report to the Senior Leadership Team.


1) Leading the Delivery of Client Engagements

    • End to end leadership of client projects – this will include stakeholder engagement, analysing organisational problems and identifying potential solutions, testing and iterating those ideas and creating and managing the programme of delivery to implement the agreed changes. The thoroughness of our approach enables us to deliver the promised impact to clients.
    • Gain a deep understanding of the challenges our clients are facing, establish “trusted advisor” relationships with client sponsors and senior leadership including at board level. Anticipate client needs and develop appropriate solutions, always ensuring that you take people with you.
    • As a trusted partner and advisor for our clients, manage day to day interactions, working through complex challenges and influencing with integrity to achieve the most appropriate outcomes.
    • In the delivery of client work, review data, organisational observations and stakeholder conversations and synthesise these to inform programme direction, applying your experience to make creative, practical and thoughtful decisions that are in the best interests of the client.
    • Lead, mentor and support teams of more junior consultants on client assignments, modelling best practice and empowering them to succeed.

    2) Developing Business

    • Actively contribute to the success of the Performance business unit helping it to achieve its annual targets through support of marketing and business development activities, working closely with the Partners.
    • Contribute to the enhancement of existing client accounts by identifying and following up on sell-on and account development opportunities.
    • Proactively develop and maintain a strong and highly effective network of personal contacts, by whom you are trusted, within the public services based on successful delivery of engagements.

    3) Growing The PSC

    • Contribute to the strategy and vision of the business unit and its offering, initiating, and leading on projects to drive internal improvement.
    • Develop others within The PSC team, training and mentoring less experienced consultants, sharing expertise and experience and providing constructive feedback to colleagues.
    • Contribute to maintaining and building the internal culture of The PSC, promoting our values and positively influencing colleagues.
    • Contribute to the recruitment process through referrals, interviewing candidates (up to manager level) and making hiring recommendations.
    • Contribute to the development of relevant practice methodologies.

    Person Specification


    • Previous experience in a consultancy, or similar, with responsibility for leading client projects or large workstreams. You will have been managing the day-to-day client relationships and supporting business development.
    • Experience in UK healthcare preferred or other areas of public services, delivering transformation projects.
    • Experience of contributing to delivery projects in the public sector with the ability to generate results in a broad range of situations.
    • Demonstrable experience of generating sell on work and repeat business within clients based on successful delivery.


    • Ability to engage in the client's environment and issues, being able to bring clarity to their situation and making the best use of your and your team’s analysis and engagement skills
    • Exceptional communication and influencing skills with the ability to inspire others into action, supporting your client through testing ideas and making changes
