Our Strategy team advises some of the most senior public services leaders on strategic decisions and implementation. We pride ourselves on being a team of trusted advisors who clients can count on to unblock their toughest challenges - turning big ideas into reality and delivering impactful implementation that lasts. Examples of our specialist work include multi-sector and agency strategic partnership development, organisational strategy, business case development, financial strategy, service optimisation, and much more.

We are now looking for a Senior Manager to join the Strategy Business Unit. This is an exciting role for an experienced consultant with a strong track record of delivery within the public sector, ideally healthcare, and who has a passion for strategy and a desire to help our public services to make the best decisions they can.

About the role

As a Senior Manager in our team you will lead client engagements, providing exceptional analysis and strategic input to achieve the desired impact for clients. You will manage day to day interactions working through complex challenges and influencing with integrity to achieve appropriate outcomes. You will also play a crucial role in the growth and development of The PSC, through the leadership mentoring of others and by working closely with our Partners to support business development activities that enhance existing accounts.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • End to end leadership of client projects.
  • Gaining a deep understanding of the challenges our clients are facing, establishing “trusted advisor” relationships with client sponsors and senior leadership including at board level.
  • Utilising strong generalist consultancy skills to embrace ambiguity and complexity to drive meaningful insight, supporting clients to answer questions they may not have been able to answer before
  • Actively contribute to the success of the Strategy Business Unit helping it to achieve its annual targets through support of marketing and business development activities, including leading the approach for one or more client offers, collaborating closely with the Partners.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of existing client accounts by identifying and following up on sell-on and account development opportunities.
  • Lead, mentor and support teams of more junior consultants on client assignments, creating a psychologically safe environment, modelling best practice and empowering them to succeed.
  • Play a “career manager” role to a small number of individuals, responsible for supporting their development and representing them at regular Development Reviews.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for people with previous experience in a consultancy, in a transformational role, with responsibility for leading client projects or large workstreams. You will have been managing the day-to-day client relationships and supporting business development. You will also bring a strong knowledge in UK Healthcare, specifically delivering strategic change.

In addition, we will look for you to demonstrate:

  • Ability to develop and rigorously test hypotheses, identify problems, perform root cause analysis and present solutions within complex systems and environments. Superb eye for detail.
  • NHS fluency: being able to speak the language and understand acronyms, systems, and structures to the trusted advisor model.
  • Experience of contributing to sales and account development management process, including writing high quality, persuasive proposals.
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor consultants at all grades.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills with the ability bring about change in large, complex organisations. 
  • Self-motivated and driven, able to work independently and take accountability for projects. Can demonstrate an emotional intelligence that balances client service, solutions and supporting others.
